2014 Season Recap

The 2014 NPAS, the inaugural season for SAM, was a season to remember. All three of our drivers finished inside the top 20 in points, which means we'll be back in 2015, stronger than ever!

Thank you to all of our partners and sponsors for the 2014 campaign.  Ray Alfalla scored 2 wins, one at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the other bring at the historic Darlington Raceway.  Bryan Blackford had his best season since 2010, and Byron Daley had many strong runs throughout the year - coming close to victory on several occasions.  Here's how we did in the overall standings:

2nd - Ray Alfalla

13th - Bryan Blackford

16th - Byron Daley

See you in 2015!

All of the SAM cars finished inside the top 10 for the first time in our team's history!  It was a rough start to the evening for Ray Alfalla, he sustained damage in a lap one crash, but recovered nicely for a 10th place finish.

Byron Daley and Bryan Blackford ran inside the top 10 for the majority of the evening, eventually coming home 8th and 9th, respectively.

In two weeks, the series heads to Kentucky Speedway for round 9 of the 2014 season!

Man, those last few laps were stressful. Big thank you to Lisa Pineda and Chris Henion for guiding me through all of it. Congratulations to Nick on the win!

I messed up qualifying by hitting the apron. It likely cost us a top 10 starting spot. I gained several positions on the start, but got a little too tight. The first stop, we made the handling much better and started putting good laps down.

Unfortunately, the caution came out to end the long green run, and it caught us a lap behind. After taking the wave around, the main focus was to protect the car. Wrecks in front brought us well inside the top 20, eventually ending up 16th.

The Slip Angle cars had a lot of speed. All the teams finished top 20! Big thank you to Frankie for officially joining the team and helping out with setups. Everyone did an amazing job working together throughout the two weeks and I couldn't be happier with the progress that has been made.

Going back to Daytona, I put us behind early with the drive-through penalty. A collection of mistakes on my behalf got us much further behind than what we could have been.

Lisa Pineda and Turkey Henion did a great job talking me through the race. The information they gave me was exactly what I wanted/needed to hear. I'm very happy they're on my team and I can't thank them enough for helping me. It really means a lot.

After practice, I was somewhat worried about our speed, but we were pretty close after all. 31st isn't what we wanted, but there are many positives to take away from this. I'm looking forward to Auto Club. We'll have another fast car and I'm excited to start practicing.

As always, thank you to my teammates for their hard work, and everyone who put in the effort to make the cars fast.

Daytona has concluded!  Congratulations Kenny Humpe... great win and a nice start to the season.

Everyone involved with Slip Angle Motorsports had a great night. All the cars finished, and received decent points! I'm happy the season has begun. It should be a great year of racing.

My race went well. The car was really fast and Lisa Pineda did a masterful job of guiding me through the trouble. 6th place is a great start to the season and I'm very proud of the effort everyone put in.  It would have been interesting if the last caution didn't come out. I was pushing Brian Schoenburg catching the leaders. Who knows what might have happened!

Special thanks and congratulations to PEAK Antifreeze for joining our series. Exciting start to their involvement.

Time to test for Vegas!

2014 is going to be a season to remember!  Four seasons in the World Championship Series and I've never been this excited to get started.  Slip Angle Motorsports is a new team, but, from what I've seen so far, the team is more than capable of winning the overall championship.

Lisa Pineda has worked incredibly hard to bring everyone together and I can't thank her enough for everything she has done.

I'm looking forward to working with my teammates (and longtime friends) Byron and Ray. I've known Ray for about 10 years, and Byron for 6.

For myself, I expect to dedicate a lot of time and energy to the team this season. I hope we can run well and finish the season inside the top 10 in points.

Testing is almost complete for Tuesday's race. We'll definitely be fast, but the biggest thing is making sure we finish the race without any incidents... (not the easiest task at Daytona International Speedway in a pack of 40 cars for 100 laps!)

I'm also looking forward to this blog and keeping fans, and sponsors in-the-know. There is so much behind the scenes that makes this all work and I'm extremely happy that our team is on top of it.

It will be a fun season. I can't wait to get started!

The 2014 Season is Upon Us!

January 30, 2014

We're happy to announce that Slip Angle Motorsports has officially formed as a 2014 NiSWC team. Being the first female and minority owned team in this series, I hope to attract more diversity to the iRacing.com service as well as inspire a diverse interest in motorsport technology.

Why Slip Angle?  I LOVE tires!  I am the only daughter of an Air Force Vet and former Goodyear Mechanic. Also, growing up, I had two older brothers with interests in computers, dirt track racing and aviation. I guess you could say that this was inevitable. While brainstorming with the drivers, and talking about various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related names, tire engineering and mechanics resonated with me. What is the most important part of any race car? The only part that touches the track!  To get the most speed out of their racecars, drivers and teams are always pushing the limits of the slip angle.  There you have it… Slip Angle Motorsports! (Also known as SAM for short)

I have been a long-time supporter of STEM education by using flight and space simulation. Upon learning about iRacing.com, I immediately saw the broad educational application potential.

Our team has big goals. Not only do we want to excel in the very competitive arena of the NiSWC, but also give back to the community by partnering with various organizations that encourage STEM education. We're happy to announce that STEM Sim Ex will be an official non-profit partner for 2014.

We've put a lot of thought into the driver selection process, and we're pleased to have Ray Alfalla, Bryan Blackford, Brandon Buie and Byron Daley join us for this historic season.  Our drivers and team members have common values - professionalism, community outreach and collaboration. We believe this is the formula for a winning team.

We're looking forward to an exciting season!  Be sure to visit this page often as we will have many updates.

See you at the virtual track!
